3 “Hidden” Wedding Expenses You Need to Plan for
When you’re planning a wedding, you also have to plan for the expenses that come along with it. Just about everything wedding-related has a price. Hopefully, you’ve got a budget mapped out. Even if you do, though, there may be a few costs you haven’t accounted for. To keep you from being hit with an ugly, unwelcome surprise, make sure you don’t forget these (and other) “hidden” wedding expenses that so often slip the minds of brides-and-grooms-to-be.
Expense #1: Outdoor Extras
If you’re having your wedding in the great outdoors, keep in mind that you will likely need to rent quite a few things. Whether your big day is taking place on the beaches of Maui or in your own backyard, you’ll likely need tents to shield from the sun and rain, outdoor bathroom facilities, chafing dishes to keep food warm, and more. Sit down and try to think of every single item you’ll need and then find a way to incorporate those must-haves into your budget.
Expense #2: Alterations
Most wedding attire isn’t going to fit perfectly right off the rack. As such, include some “wiggle room” in your budget for any last minute changes you might need, such as taking your dress in or out or altering the length to work with your shoes. Also, decide upfront if you will be responsible for members of the wedding party’s alterations or if you’ll ask them to cover the cost.
Expense #3: Postage
Are you sending out your wedding invites the old-fashioned way, i.e. via the mail? If so, keep in mind that there’s a small cost associated with each one you send. If you’re sending a lot, it can add up, so prepare for this expense ahead of time. Also, don’t overlook the costs associated with shipping anything else, like bridesmaids’ dresses or those last minute flowers you just have to have.
No one said that planning a wedding was going to be easy or inexpensive! Sadly, weddings can cost quite a bit. But, if you plan for anything and everything, at least you won’t be shocked or unexpectedly in debt your wedding day.
