Three Tips for a Great Engagement Party

Three Tips for a Great Engagement Party

Getting engaged is exciting. And, luckily, you get to celebrate your big news with an engagement party. Remember, though, that party is the first big step toward your wedding. As such, you’ll want to start things off on the right foot. These three tips can help you do just that.

Tip #1: Consider it an Introduction

On the surface, an engagement party is about having fun and rejoicing in good news. But, if you take a closer look, it’s a lot more. It’s a way for your family and your partner’s family to get together, maybe for the first time. It’s also a way for the members of the bridal party to get to know one another. So, plan your party with that in mind. Consider adding in some fun icebreaker games. Also, don’t hesitate to formally introduce attendees to one another. Overall, create an inclusive, welcoming environment that gets everyone comfortable and hyped for your big day.

Tip #2: Make It No-Stress

The second you’re engaged, people are going to start asking questions. They may want to know where you’re getting married and when. They may even want to know what their role in the wedding will be. Don’t feel pressured to have all the details nailed down just yet. Let your guests know, ahead of time, what things you have figured out and what things you’re still working on. You can even go so far as to request that no “wedding planning” talk happen at the party. This will allow you to relax and enjoy the event, instead of fielding questions all night.

Tip #3: Do It Early

Long engagements are increasingly common. However, it’s still customary to throw your engagement party early on, ideally within a few months of getting engaged and several months (or longer) from your wedding. If guests travel, buy gifts, and celebrate your engagement, they’ll need time to settle and prepare for the wedding itself. So, avoid booking celebrations too close together. It will give you and your attendees some much-needed breathing room between big events.

Wedding planning is stressful, but your engagement party shouldn’t be. It’s one of your last chances to unwind before all the stress sets in. So, take a deep breath and follow these tips for a successful engagement event you can be proud of.
