Tips for Keeping Your Engagement Ring Sparkling
The day you got engaged was likely a very special day, one you’ll remember forever. And, with any luck, you’ll also have and wear your engagement ring forever too. Forever, though, is a long time, and your ring is probably going to need some cleaning every now and then if you want it to stay in great shape, especially when you think about all of the products, such as lotion and soap, that it gets exposed to. Plus, if you’re getting married in beautiful Maui, your ring may also face high temperatures, sandy conditions, and saltwater, all of which can dull its sparkle without the proper care.
Professional Cleaning
First of all, know that there is no substitute for having a quality jewelry store do a thorough deep-cleaning on your ring. These experts will use professional equipment to achieve a cleaning that will have your ring looking brand new again. Be sure to have this done right before your wedding so your ring will look its best, and then, from there, opt for expert cleanings about once a year.
Try a Toothbrush
For those times when you can’t get to a jewelry store or you aren’t due for another professional cleaning but still want your ring to sparkle, try cleaning it yourself with a toothbrush. Start by placing your ring in a glass of water with a few drops of dish liquid in it. Then, pick up a new toothbrush, or grab an old one you were going to toss. Once the ring has had time to soak, usually about half an hour, use the toothbrush to clean every crack and crevice of your ring and stone. Once it’s sparkling, rise and dry, and you’ll be amazed at the difference!
Try a Jewelry Cleaning Solution
Not happy with the results of the toothbrush method? If so, head to your jewelry store or even a local department store and see if you can find some jewelry cleaner. These cleaners come in different forms. Some, for example, will just have you soak your ring, while others come with a brush for hands-on cleaning. Just be careful to choose a cleaner that is safe for your specific type of ring and, when in doubt, ask your jeweler!
Keeping an engagement ring looking its best is going to take some work on your part! But, if you’re willing to put in the effort, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful ring for life.
