Tips for Saving for the Big Day
If you have recently been proposed to (or did the proposing), you now have a wedding to plan. And, you might just be surprised at how expensive a wedding can be. However, don’t let hefty price tags discourage you. No matter who you are, you can still have your dream wedding. You just have to save for it. And, believe it or not, that’s really not as hard as you might think!
Give Yourself Some Time
When you’re head over heels in love, you want to walk down the aisle as quickly as possible. However, taking the plunge too soon often means you don’t have time to save up for the wedding you truly want. Your love can survive a few months or even a year of being engaged. Plus, if you wait a while and use the time to save, your wedding will be all the more special when it does arrive.
Set a Savings Goal
Once you’ve decided on a timeframe, make a plan! Come up with how much you want to save for your wedding and how you’ll get there. Will you take a little money from each of your paychecks? Will you ask mom and dad to pitch in? Determine exactly what it will take to reach your savings goal. Also, do some research to make sure your savings goal is in line with all the things you’re planning to book and buy for the wedding. A lot of couples under-budget for what they’ll actually need on the big day!
Cut the Fat
While it may not be fun, you may realize, as you save and plan for your wedding, that you can’t have everything you want. Thus, be prepared to shave off a few extra frivolous things you might have planned for your wedding. You may also want to think about shaving your guest list if you can’t make your budget work. That’s not always an easy thing to do, but sometimes cutting a few guests from the list can allow you to have that dress you really want or to get your first choice venue. Weddings do involve some hard financial decisions, but if you and your soon-to-be-spouse make them together, that’s really all that matters!
Planning a wedding isn’t easy, and saving for one certainly isn’t. But, it can be done. Follow these tips, work closely with your partner, and before you know it, you should have enough saved for a beautiful big day.
