Wedding Reception Cuisine
For most wedding guests, one of the best perks of attending is the meal. And, on your big day, you want to serve your guests (and yourself!) something delicious. However, not all foods are fit for a wedding reception. And, while what you serve is ultimately your call, take note of these tips on what experts say you should never serve.
Pork Dishes
Pork can be delicious. After all, bacon is pork, and what could be better? However, pork dishes really aren’t ideal for a wedding. For one thing, a lot of people don’t eat pork for religious or health reasons. So, you could be making a lot of your guests feel left out by serving it. For another, it’s full of salt, which can make you feel bloated and gross in your gown or other attire. Plus, pork, if undercooked, carries a risk of trichinosis, a serious food-borne disease. That’s not the kind of thing you need to be worried about on your wedding day!
Cold Salads
Non-lettuce salads, like chicken salad or tuna salad, can be very pleasant on a hot day. However, when they have to sit out in the sun or at room temp, they can get gross quickly. Not only can they go bad, particularly if they are mayonnaise-based, but they can also become congealed and just plain too warm to be appetizing. This is especially true if you’re getting married outdoors somewhere sunny, such as Maui. Thus, for best results, avoid those must-be-served-cold foods.
Spicy Foods
Even if you and your spouse-to-be are spice connoisseurs, you’ll probably want to avoid anything too hot at your wedding. These foods may not suit all or even most palates. Additionally, they can frequently lead to indigestion, heartburn, and other stomach upsets you and your guests will want to avoid.
Eat and eat well on your wedding day. It will keep you nourished and energized while ensuring your guests have a great time. Just be careful about what you choose to serve. If you can follow these helpful dietary tips, you’ll be off to a delectable start!
