Maui is a beautiful place to get married. And, once you’ve chosen such a beautiful destination wedding locale, you’ll likely want everything else to be just as perfect. However, getting overly obsessive about the details isn’t good for your sanity . . . or your wallet. In truth, there are several wedding extras you can skip over without damaging your big day.
Wedding Expense #1: Excessive Flowers
Flowers are a traditional part of any wedding. However, many brides go overboard. The truth is that no one is going to be counting how many floral arrangements you have or checking to see if every member of the bridal party is wearing a corsage. Spring for flowers for the bride and groom, and maybe place a few blooms on the tables. Aside from that, though, most flowery displays aren’t really necessary.
Wedding Expense #2: Fluffy Favors
Many weddings load guests down with lots of favors to take away. Things like matchbooks, bubbles, and pretty programs are all common. However, the vast majority of these items get tossed in the trash or stored in a junk drawer. Why waste your money? Instead, focus on giving guests one nice, quality favor to take away. They’re likely to value that a whole lot more than a bunch of useless stuff.
Wedding Expense #3: Fancy Clothes
Clothes for a wedding can cost a lot. And, on top of the tux and wedding gown, many couples add an extra outfit into the mix. This makes sense because they want something more comfortable, but still formal for enjoying the reception. However, there’s really no need to go out and buy something expensive. Pose for all the necessary photos in your wedding attire. Then, once the photographers are gone and the fun starts, just wear something you want to wear and that you already own. You’ll spend less and enjoy your time more.
Weddings are special events, but they’ll feel a lot more fun and special if you aren’t overly hard on yourself. Don’t focus on making every last detail perfect or exorbitant. Instead, cut costs where you can and concentrate on what really matters: sharing a magical day with the people you love most.
