Post-COVID Weddings: What You Need to Know
COVID-19 took the world by surprise and changed everyone’s way of life for over a year. Slowly but surely, though, it looks like things are starting to get back to normal, or at least more normal than they were. For this reason, many couples who had to cancel their ceremonies are now planning them again. If you’re one of them, make sure you understand that the post-COVID world looks different. However, knowing what to expect can make it a little easier to navigate.
Expect Delays
When you’ve already been forced to postpone your wedding, the last thing you want is to wait some more. But, unfortunately, you’ll probably have to. Most wedding vendors are behind and playing catch up for other people who, just like you, had to reschedule their big day. Venues are also behind, and many are operating at less than full capacity, which also slows things down. Thus, as hard as it may be, be patient. Know that you might have to be put on a waiting list for most things and that you may have to set your date further out than you want. It’s not fun, but it’s just the reality of life in a post-COVID world.
Notify Guests As Soon As Possible
Once you are able to nail down a wedding date, notify your guests as soon as possible. These days, things like making travel arrangements, finding a hotel, and preparing to be a wedding guest may take more time than usual. Some people may also wish to get tested and/or vaccinated before attending a wedding, and your heads-up gives them time to make these types of judgment calls.
Be Understanding
Finally, know that some people are probably going to opt out of your wedding due to COVID-related fears. Yes, things are looking brighter, but there are still people out there who are scared or very vulnerable to the virus. Plus, if you’re having your wedding in Maui or another popular tourist destination, some people may not feel comfortable traveling yet. It’s sad, but you have to be respectful and understanding of everyone’s feelings during this time. You may even want to consider livestreaming your wedding so no one who can’t come feels left out.
The world looks different after COVID, and so do weddings. And, while some of these changes may be disappointing, you just have to roll with them. Ultimately, as long as you can still have your wedding and say your vows, that’s all that matters!
