Tips To Perfect Your Wedding Dance Moves
At wedding receptions, it’s customary for the bride and groom to share a wedding dance together. For some couples, this is a chance to snuggle close and lightly move around the dance floor. Others, however, want to go all out and wow their guests. If you're in that second category, consider these tips for an unforgettable wedding dance.
Take Some Lessons
In the months leading up to your wedding, you’re going to be super busy. But, you may be able to squeeze in a few dance lessons at a local studio. Many specialize in helping brides and grooms get ready for their big day. Depending on your skill level, you may only need one or two lessons. Or, you might want to take classes weekly or twice a week for a few months. It’s a good way to bond and forget about your wedding stress for a while.
Turn To YouTube
If you don’t have the time (or money) to take formal lessons, the internet is your friend. YouTube, in particular, is packed with dance instruction videos. Some can even teach you a full wedding dance. The videos are also free and can be repeated and paused as needed. Plus, you and your partner are sure to have fun dancing around in your living room.
Practice Makes Perfect
Whether you’re performing a choreographed dance or just winging it, make sure you practice a little ahead of time. Ideally, you’ll practice on the actual dance floor you’ll be using. If that “floor,” for example, is a sandy Maui beach, it will take some getting used to. Even traditional dance floors may be bigger, smaller, or more slippery than you’re prepared for. So, when possible, get out there and practice your prancing and twirling.
Unless you’re a professional dancer, no one expects you to bust out major moves during your wedding dance. But, practicing and planning certainly doesn’t hurt. At the very least, you’ll know where to put your hands and how to position your head so you look comfortable, natural, and completely in love.
