Totally Normal Post-Engagement Feelings
Many people dream of their wedding proposal. However, a dream is different from reality. So, once you’re engaged, don’t be shocked if some of your feelings surprise you. That’s totally normal, and so are all of these post-engagement sensations.
Utter Excitement
You want to jump up and down with happiness. You can’t believe you’re finally engaged. You’re actually getting married! These feelings are usually present during the first stage of post-engagement. If you’re feeling them, it’s a good sign you’re happy with your decision to say “yes.” So, go ahead. Revel in them. Tell everyone your news, and don’t let anyone steal your joy.
Worry
Once you’re past the “thrill” stage, you may start to get a little worried or nervous. Usually, these feelings hit right around the time you start planning your engagement party. You might be concerned about ironing out all the details, such as your wedding date or venue. Don’t panic. As long as you’ve set your wedding date far enough in advance, you’ll have plenty of time to plan. And, if you still can’t beat the stress, this might be a sign you need to hire a wedding planner. If, on the other hand, your doubts extend beyond just the planning and about your upcoming marriage itself, then you might have some more serious thinking to do.
Annoyance
Once the novelty of being engaged wears off, you might find yourself a little annoyed. Maybe you’re tired of people asking to see your ring. Or, maybe everyone is hounding you for details you don’t have yet. If you’re feeling a bit frustrated, don’t beat yourself up. Instead, take it as a sign that you need to have some downtime and relax. It might even be a good idea to spend some alone time with your spouse-to-be. If you give yourself some space to unwind and disconnect, the annoyance is likely to pass as quickly as it came.
Your feelings matter. So, whatever you’re feeling post-engagement, honor it. Pay attention to it. Treat yourself and your feelings like they matter. This sets a great trend for the whole wedding planning process. In fact, if you adopt this attitude and check in with yourself throughout the planning stages, your whole wedding experience is likely to be better.
