Engaged and Unemployed? Don’t Panic!
Most people strive to get engaged at a time in their lives when they’re financially secure. However, life has a way of throwing curveballs. As such, you may have found yourself in a situation where you’re both engaged and unemployed. However, don’t panic. You can still plan your wedding, look for work, and manage to come out of it all happily married and, with any luck, on your way to gainful employment or with a new job.
Don’t Stop the Job Hunt
Whether you’re planning a small, local wedding or a big, beautiful one somewhere exotic like Maui, don’t slack on your job hunting. Yes, you have a wedding to plan, and, yes, that’s a big responsibility. But, at this point, searching for new employment should still be a major priority. If you’re having trouble juggling both, remember that it’s okay to scale back your wedding plans somewhat or to ask others for help. Anyone who truly cares for you will understand and will step in where and when you need.
Make Connections
Believe it or not, your wedding planning can sometimes lead to possible job opportunities. As you plan your wedding, you’re meeting people you’ve never met before. Whether it’s the caterers, the wedding planner, or even the minister, treat everyone as a potential “job lead.” After all, they might be exactly that. Be friendly, professional, and courteous with everyone you interact with. Let them know you’re looking for work. You may just make a cool connection that could lead to a new prospect.
Don’t Beat Yourself Up
Wedding planning should be a happy time. And, while being unemployed may not be what you always dreamed of, don’t let it get you down. Try to enjoy the process of planning your wedding regardless of the fact that things aren’t perfect on the job front. Remember, jobs come and go, but the happiness you’ll share with your beloved and your memories of your special day are forever. Thus, don’t be afraid to cut yourself some slack and to cut loose and have fun from time to time.
Ultimately, no one wants to find themselves without a job leading up to their wedding. But, if this happens to you, tell yourself there is hope at the end of the tunnel. Follow these tips and keep your chin up. If you trust that everything will work out as it should, then it probably will!
